In Greece Boehringer Ingelheim has been present for more than half a century. Today it is the only multinational pharmaceutical company that has maintained its own unit of production of innovative medicines in Greece since 1975. Boehringer Ingelheim Ellas is a leader in exporting innovative medicines. With exports to 70 countries, it represents 2.2% of Greece’s exports regardless of sector. The company has a strong social footprint: According to Wifor institute report, published June 2019, Boehringer Ingelheim’s direct contribution to Greece’s GDP in 2018 amounted to about 8% of the Greek pharmaceutical industry. Including spillover effects, BI contributed almost €310 m of Gross Value Added in 2018 (compared to 2014 with €170 m). Boehringer Ingelheim employed triggered additional 5,764 indirect and 1,573 induced jobs within the Greek labor market, thus supporting almost 7,700 Greek jobs (compared to 2014 with 3,529 jobs).
